Angel's Envy distillery, Louisville, Kentucky

Louisville Kentucky

One of my closest friends, Natalie lives in Louisville. When my husband heard that Mumford & Sons had a show there & it was on my Birthday, he bought tickets as soon as they went on sale. We had seen them in Nashville and absolutely loved them. Added bonus was visiting with my friend and that my husband is a fan of Bourbon and Kentucky is the motherland of Bourbon.

After grabbing a delicious burger at The Sidebar & getting settled into the Hampton Inn downtown we headed to the Angels Envy Distillery. Reservations are required, we had made them ahead of time for $15/person. Natalie was born & raised in Louisville and had never been to a bourbon tour so came along for the ride. If you decide to take this tour, be sure to wear closed toe shoes, as they are required. Our tour guide was funny, knowledgable & very informative. We learned a lot about the bourbon making process and also some history of downtown Louisville. The building is an original building from the 1800’s and was reopened as Angels Envy Distillery in 2013, leaving the original outside walls and part of the Billy Goat Strut Alley. It is beautiful! Looking like a show room with the wood & copper details along with their logo throughout. I am not a bourbon drinker, but did find the tour very interesting and my husband was beyond impressed. The port finish is one of Angel’s Envy’s unique qualities. The tasting process was fun. I drank some, but couldn’t finish the second taste, my husband was happy to finish it off for me. I am definitely happy I didn’t let him attend this alone because I do appreciate the entire process and don’t mind spending the money on a quality bottle for him now that I see what goes into it. I actually just purchased him his first Angel’s Envy Rye bottle last week.

Louisville has a ton of history and a pretty little walk along the waterfront. The KFC Yum! Center was a wonderful venue for a show & Mumford did not disappoint! If you like chicken you have to go to Merle’s. They have great live music and the best fried chicken I have ever had! They also had a great selection of bourbon & beer.
